Brompton Bottom Bracket Recall

Details about the Brompton recall for defective FAG bottom brackets.

Most of you probably know by now that the bottom bracket on your Brompton Bicycle may be subject to a recall and replacement. I just received word that my shipment of replacement bottom brackets was shipped today and I should have them in hand by Monday, October 9th. Feel free to schedule a time after that date if your bike is part of the recall.

The bikes affected can be any model manufactured from April 2014 through until May 2017 and will have a serial number between 1403284144 and 1705150001 — the serial number can be found on the ID plate or sticker on the back side of the seat tube.

Roughly 144,000 bikes made between April 2014 and May 2017 have been recalled. The axle in the German-made FAG bottom bracket has failed on only one in 5,000 bikes, which is well within industry standards, but not up to Brompton's standards.

PLEASE NOTE that the bottom brackets that are currently on your bikes are still safe to ride and comply with all international safety standards -  there is no problem with continuing to use your Brompton. This swap can be done any time for the next 2 years, so there is no rush!

For those of you no where near a Brompton dealer...
We know there are a number of you that purchased from us because there was no local dealer around.  We are glad we are able to get you one of these incredible Brompton folding bikes!  However, this does complicate the situation when it comes to replacing a bottom bracket. If you are one of these customers, please contact us so we can help make arrangements to get this sorted out for you. We cannot ship the bottom brackets directly to you for any reason. Our number is 720-588-3653, our you can email us at [email protected].
